Before and After main image
In order to achieve this look I used a variety of tools available in photoshop.
I used the tool to the left, the patch tool. This tool allows you to select an area, in this case an area of skin that has either a spot or mark on, you can then replace the area of skin with another area by dragging the area highlighted to the clear bit of skin. The marked area is then replaced with the clear area. I used this tool to remove some of the darkness below her eyes.
I used the tool to the right, the spot healing tool. This tool allows you to remove any spots by simply clicking over the top of them. The tool works by using the skin around the bit you are healing to replace the spot with the skin surrounding it. I used this tool on her forehead were a cluster of spots can be seen. However, I had to start from the pots on the outside in order for them to disappear completely.
This tool is called the burn tool. It allows you to make certain parts of the picture darker, for example I made around her darker so they stand out more. In order to get the effect of the burn tool you need to adjust the settings available at the top of the screen to make slight adjustments to the picture, until you get the effect you want. You can use the exposure setting to adjust the amount of burning that occurs. The range will specify the range of tones that will be affected.
This tool is known as the dodge tool. This tool is the opposite to the burn tool, this tool allows you to lighten parts of the picture. You can change the adjustments at the top in order to achieve the effect you want, and again you can change the exposure settings to achieve this. I used this tool on her eyes and on parts of her hair. The effect isn't very noticeable on her hair, this is because I made subtle changes.
I used the colour tool to add colour to her eyes to make them stand out more. In order to make them a similar colour to her original eyes, I used the colour selection tool which allows you to click on a colour in the picture and the colour pallet will find the same colour within it's large colour selection. I then moved in slightly in to a lighter colour to make her eyes stand out more.
The picture to the left shows how you get to the levels tool. The levels tool allows you to make the picture lighter or darker, this gives the picture some 'punch', and makes the colours in the picture more prominent. In order to get to the levels tool you need to go to levels, then new adjustment layer, and then to levels. Once you have clicked on this the below picture can be seen. This shows the adjustments of the colours which are being changed in the picture.

Pictures For Front Cover
I chose to take my pictures in front of a graffited wall to emphasis the fact that the main star is an urban girl, and also so the magazine appeals to the urban teenage girl. I used a modle who had the girl next door look; no make-up, long blonde hair, blue eyes and casual clothing that come across as the typical girl next door.

I produced this trophy symbol by selecting the shape tool, and then selecting the shape out of the wide range of shapes on photoshop. I then dragged the shape to the size I wanted and filled it in with a colour. I choose to a trophy as it represents a winner so it could represent what the words suggest, who the audiences winners are in the music industry or that the magazine is a winner.
This is a print screen of my new and improved masthead. I got the idea from Billboard magazine who fill in the gaps in the letters in their masthead. I used the magic wand tool to select the area which I wanted to fill in. I then selected the small square at the left hand side at the bottom to change the colour, I picked colours that stand out the most, are vibrant and appeal to both sexes. I then used the brush tool to fill in the area selected.
This is where I got the idea from.

Double Page Spread Ideas
I like the above double page spread of Lady Gaga, as I think the picture reflects her personality perfectly. She is looking straight at the camera and is putting across an emotion to the readers. The text is simply and compliments the colours of he outfit. 'Icon for the next generation' tells the audience even if they didn't know who she is they would know from those five words how popular and influential she is in the music industry.
The double page spread to the left if of Taylor Swift. The picture on the left is very simply but yet very effective. Also the text in the teser abover the main title says 'the very pink' this text is reflected in the colour of the teaser and the main feature title. There is also another teaser underneath the main title which goes into more detail of the actual article. The fact that the main article isn't on this page will make the reader want to turn the page and continue to read on. I think this doub;e page spread is aimed at young girls who aspire to be pop stars at the teser says ' the very pink, very perfect life' this is what most little girls like and want out of life.
